Terracotta effect Tiles

Terracotta floor tiles are often relegated to second place in interior design. Indeed, they sometimes bring a Provençal connotation and are particularly associated with interiors that are sometimes old-fashioned. However, Novoceram has succeeded in blending modernity and rustic style by revisiting terracotta style tiling. The modern interpretation of this effect offers a completely new result that combines the classic simplicity of terracotta, brought up to date, with the technical characteristics of porcelain stoneware. In this way, the terracotta effect tile recalls the warmth and scents of Mediterranean countries while lending a soft, unmistakable atmosphere to your indoor and outdoor spaces.

Use of imitation terracotta tiles

Terracotta-style tiles can be laid both indoors and outdoors, and enhance both floors and walls. Porcelain stoneware has many technical qualities, so it stands up to the demands of different uses.

First of all, wet rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens have water and moisture-related requirements that can sometimes be difficult for floor and wall coverings to meet. However, imitation terracotta porcelain stoneware has excellent moisture and vapour resistance. It can be laid in complete safety in your wet rooms and even in a swimming pool without its aesthetic appearance deteriorating. So you can add a touch of authenticity to the walls and floors of these rooms.

Of course, terracotta effect tiles are also suitable for installation in other rooms in the house, such as the living room. This is the place to be, where conviviality and sharing are the order of the day, and it needs a covering that enhances it. This is the case with imitation terracotta tiles which, thanks to their range of more modern colours, are able to blend in wonderfully with your room’s decor and gently highlight it.

The terracotta tile in porcelain stoneware has also been designed for outdoor installation, and is available in a thickness of 2cm. So it has all the features you need, such as frost and weather resistance. So your terrace and garden can easily take on a cosy look where relaxation and rest are welcome. Not only does this create visual harmony in your interior, it also blurs the boundaries between the rooms in the house and the outside.

Terracotta effect tiles allow you to invite the Mediterranean into your indoor and outdoor environments for an elegant touch of authenticity and craftsmanship. It can also add a unique charm to spaces that sometimes have different styles, while at the same time personalizing them by blending beautifully with many different decorations.

Decoration: the effects and colours of imitation terracotta porcelain stoneware

Terracotta is often associated with rustic, Provençal and country house-style interiors. Of course, this type of decoration is not for everyone. With this in mind, Novoceram has decided to reinvent the terracotta effect tile with a modern twist to keep it constantly on trend.

The aesthetic appearance of imitation terracotta tiles is perfectly faithful to classic terracotta. Every detail that characterises terracotta is reproduced on the tiles so realistically that it’s hard to notice any visual differences between the two materials. This fidelity in replication is made possible by the use of cutting-edge technologies that Novoceram employs when making its products.

However, the contemporary reinvention of this effect can be seen in the colours, which are not the traditional orange tones. This range of classic colours, from red to brown, warms up interiors, but is limited in terms of decoration. Novoceram has therefore turned its attention to designing more sober, neutral colours so that terracotta tiles in porcelain stoneware can blend in with all types of space. To find the perfect colours, several natural and coloured earths have been mixed together to achieve a unique and inimitable result. The wide variety of shades includes light or dark, warm or cool tones, giving a certain timelessness to the look of imitation terracotta porcelain stoneware.

Light colours, such as ivory tiles or beige tiles for example, enhance the room’s natural luminosity while finely underlining the decorative elements of the environment. They bring warmth and softness to the space in question. On the other hand, the dark colours of imitation terracotta tiles, often synonymous with power and elegance such as grey tiles, create an atmosphere imbued with modernity and add a certain cachet to the space. Whichever colour of terra cotta-look tile suits you best, they all blend beautifully with different spaces and mix modernity and tradition, contemporary character and rustic style with a harmonious balance.

What sizes are available for imitation terracotta tiles?

Terracotta porcelain stoneware tiles come in a wide variety of formats to suit all spaces, whatever their characteristics. Small and medium sizes can be adapted to suit any space and satisfy all the latest trends. There is a wide choice of options:

  • Small-format terracotta-look tiles, such as the 7.5×3.75 cm mosaic. The tiles are laid on a 45×45 cm mesh for easy installation. Ideal for easily demarcating spaces, this format also offers a host of decorative possibilities. It is particularly suitable for kitchen splashbacks, bathroom tiles or simply to cover a countertop, for example.
  • Terracotta-effect tile in medium format, which includes 45×45 cm in particular. Defined as classic, these sizes are the most commonly found in our interiors and exteriors, as they enhance both large and small spaces.

Rectangular terracotta-style tiles that include 22.5×45 cm or even 45×90 cm. These formats can be used to create graphic effects where the different dimensions blend together to create a geometric result. For example, these sizes can adorn walls, while a square format can be laid on the floor.

The advantages of terracotta tiles

Terracotta has a number of limitations, not least its more fragile and porous nature, whereas terracotta effect tiles are the result of a balanced union between the aesthetic appeal of terracotta and the technicality and functionality of porcelain stoneware. It therefore has all the advantages of this highly resistant material.

Firstly, unlike the material from which it is inspired, imitation porcelain stoneware requires no specific treatment. It is waterproof by nature, so there is no need to apply a water-repellent coating as is the case with terracotta, for example. Daily maintenance of porcelain stoneware is anything but restrictive. Because terracotta-look tiles are not very porous, stains tend not to penetrate the tile and remain on the surface. Clear water and a cloth are all you need to clean them. If deep cleaning is required and the stains cannot be removed, a more aggressive product from a professional brand can be used. This is not the case with terracotta, as certain products can alter its colour and appearance.

It’s also important to point out that imitation terracotta porcelain stoneware has excellent scratch and wear resistance. It can therefore be safely laid on the floor without any risk of altering its aesthetic appearance. Your living room, kitchen or bathroom can therefore be enhanced by a floor covering that evokes the simplicity and charm of traditional terracotta.

Finally, imitation terracotta tiles are a quality material that doesn’t change over time. It’s a true testament to the passage of time, retaining its original appearance if it’s well maintained and suited to its intended use.
